And won a cash bonus of one million euros at 6thNovember. The competition was attended by 80 cities, of which only six applicants entered the final and fought for the title: Umeå (Sweden), Aarhus (Denmark), Toulouse (France), Hamburg (Germany), Athens (Greece), and Leuven (Belgium).
The European Capital of Innovation Award, awarded under the EU’s Horizon program, is aimed at European cities that use innovation to increase sustainability and vitality and open up new opportunities for citizens and cities that contribute to creating dynamic innovation ecosystems and collaborate with citizens in making decisions and implementation of action.
