Itineraries

Day 1

THESSALONIKI

After breakfast at the hotel, we will take a tour around the beautiful city of Thessaloniki, the second largest city of Greece and the capital of the North. Thessaloniki was established in 316 by Cassander and named after his beloved wife who was the half-sister of Alexander the Great. It is a city with an enduring 2300-year history, filled with historical monuments to admire. After our tour of the city, we will enjoy a luscious lunch and return to the hotel. The rest of the evening will be free for you to enjoy in this vibrant city. Overnight stay.

Day 2

PELLA – VERGINA – DION

The second day will be dedicated to some of the most important cities of the ancient Macedonian kingdom. After breakfast, we will depart for Pella, the birthplace of Alexander the Great and capital of his kingdom. First mentioned in Herodotus in 480 B. C. , Pella is a majestic archaeological site, with a museum full of findings worth viewing. Moving on, we will visit the great archaeological site of Vergina, the burial site of Phillip II, father of Alexander the Great. The impeccable museum holds many treasures and findings excavated on the site. We will make a stopover to enjoy a delightful lunch, before heading towards the archaeological site of Dion. Named after the God of Greek mythology, Dion used to be the sacred city and religious center of Macedonia from the 5th century B. C. to the 5th century A. D. At the site we will get to admire the ancient theater, the market and the bath complex with its remarkable mosaics. Later, we will return to the hotel in Thessaloniki and enjoy some free time to rest. Overnight stay.

Day 3

PHILIPPI – AMPHIPOLIS – STAGIRA

Having enjoyed breakfast, we will begin the final day of our tour with a visit to Philippi, which was founded by Phillip II and bears his name. This World Heritage site contains a combination of ancient findings from many historical time periods. Some of the most famous among them are the octagon, the Roman market, the Christian basilica, parts of the city walls and of Via Egnatia ( Egnatia street). Then there is a stop at Amphipolis to visit the archaeological site and the museum, as well as admire the marble statue of Lion of Amphipolis. Before departing for our final destination, there is a delicious lunch for us to enjoy. In Stagira, we will admire the statue of Aristotle and the park full of works of art depicting his ideas. Stagira was the birthplace of Atistotle, the teacher and mentor of Alexander the Great, and after the destruction of the city by Phillip II, Alexander reconstructed it in honor of his great teacher. Return to the hotel in Thessaloniki.
