A unique chance for all those who, due to various circumstances, have no opportunity to visit the Holy Mountain, but would like to experience the rich spiritual tradition and historical heritage of the unique monastic republic and get acquainted with those who live according to its tradition. We will be met by the nuns of the monastery of Ormylia, who will tell us about the history of their monastery and its shrines, and, of course, will treat us to the Athos tradition of hospitality. At the end of the program, we will take a small cruise allowing us to view the monasteries located along the west coast of Mount Athos.

Holy Monastery of the Annunciation of Virgin Mary – Lunchtime – Sailing around Mt. Athos

Transfer from the hotel

After being transferred from the visitors’ hotel to the meeting point with the guide, the tour will begin with a visit to the Monastery of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary in Ormylia, one of the biggest female monasteries in Greece. This monastery is linked to and operates in a similar fashion to the Monastery of Simonopetra in Mount Athos. Our next stop is to have lunch in a traditional village by the sea before departing for our cruise,

Sailing around the west side of the Holy Peninsula, there is a clear view of the Dochiariou Monastery, the Monastery of Xenophontos, the Monastery of St. Panteleimon, the Monastery of Simonopetra, the Gregoriou Monastery, the Monastery of St. Paul and various sketes. A cruise around the Athos Peninsula is a unique opportunity to admire the magnificent architecture of the Byzantine monasteries and the amazing natural scenery that surrounds them.

After the cruise, we return to Ouranoupoli.
